   The batteries on eBay that come out of China or overseas are safe to use in your PSP. I have been using them for years now in IPODs and stuff. The higher the mAh number the more charge they store (last longer in your PSP).

   Just make sure you are buying from someone who has good feedback if you decide to go that way. It typically takes a week and a half to get your stuff ordered from China.

   You can buy an original Sony PSP battery and it is going to be made in China.

   I suspect that the digital recorder would be better because it should have a better signal to noise ratio and therefore the "static" noise should be less.
   You may also want to try a Minidisc (orignal design was Sony) becuase they have a good signal to noise ratio. However, you will need a plug in microphone. The microphones I have used for my business have been from Core Sound (Low Cost Binaural are $75 but I would suggest purchasing with the The Low Sensitivity option which is an extra $15 but it would be a good idea for the lecture surroundings). The sound quality is excellent and you would lose all the hiss noise.

   I suspect with the recorder you would want to download the data to your computer so that it frees up the space on the recorder.
